Ghost Squad by Claribel A. Ortega
Shortly before Halloween, Lucely and her best friend, Syd, cast a spell that accidentally awakens malicious spirits, wreaking havoc throughout St. Augustine. Together, they must join forces with Syd's witch grandmother, Babette, and her tubby tabby, Chunk, to fight the haunting head-on and reverse the curse to save the town and Lucely's firefly spirits before it's too late.

Snacks
- Oreos (Page 185: “Syd jumped up and grabbed a handful of Oreos from the cookie jar.”)
- Guava juice (Page 13: “I drank a lot of guava juice at breakfast.”)
Activities
- Draw a ghost catcher -- I gave descriptions from the book of the ghost catchers used by Babette, Syd, and Luceley. Then the girls could choose to draw one of those ghost catchers or create their own ghost catcher to draw.
- Origami firefly & circuit -- I gave the the girls the materials and instructions to create an origami firefly that can then light up by using a battery, copper tape, and an LED light. (This ties into the book because Lucely's deceased family members live on as firefly spirits.) https://girlstart.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/30.-Origami-Firefly-Circuit.pdf
- Author interview -- We listened to an interview with the author where she shared her backstory behind creating the book. https://www.teachingbooks.net/book_reading.cgi?a=1&id=19591
